The mehendi was followed by a lavish lunch with all members of the family, like aunts, uncles and cousins, at the dining table. After lunch, I went to my bedroom upstairs. It was my husband's room when he lived here, and we would stay there every time we visited. I changed into a comfortable maxi gown as worn by many married women in India. Later, I took a much needed nap after the long journey by train to get here.
In the evening, I joined everyone downstairs for tea. I went to the kitchen to lend a helping hand to Aai aunts, who were busy preparing tea and snacks for everyone.
